From Sudbury to Thunder Bay in Northern Ontario is some of the most spectacular and remote track in the CP network. The birch and pine forests west of Sudbury give way to the rocky northern shore of Lake Superior just west of Heron Bay. Slide detector fences line portions of the track as the train snakes its way along granite cliffs. It is a view rarely seen.
For much of the journey, we have had little cellular access. Our communications devices only work in the towns that we visit, and the show takes priority. So there is have been few phone calls, little Blackberry hum, and no blog updates. The Holiday Train unplugs. Remote does not mean unpopulated, however, and we have completed 10 shows over this 18 hour journey. From enthusiastic kids in the First Nations of PIC Mobert and PIC River, to warm welcomes in Marathon, Schreiber and Nipigon, the Holiday Train has wowed them all. Tonight in Thunder Bay, we played to a huge, enthusiastic crowd that filled the food bank van to the roof. Mike L.
